Generals Sports Roundup: Golf Heads to States, Cross Country Ends As CAL Champs Again

The high school golf team is headed to the state finals for the second year in a row next Monday and both the boys' and girls' cross-country teams ended as Cape Ann League small champions on Tuesday.

The golf team at is the Div. 3 North runner-ups – by a point - and the field hockey team got its third tie of the fall on Tuesday.

Golf:

The golf team was second in the Div. 3 North Sectional on Monday at Far Corner Golf Club in Boxford on Monday. The team was just one point behind Weston, 322-321. General Luke Farley was the tournament champion, shooting a one over par 73. Other Generals who helped in the scoring were Ryan Richard (8th, 79), Luke Drieze (13th, 81) and Joe Merrill (48th, 89). Tom Conville (53rd, 90) and Brian Nicoll (64th, 92) rounded out play for the Generals.

The Generals finish means Hamilton-Wenham joins Weston and Wayland, which finished third, in next Monday’s state championships at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. Last year the Generals finished seventh in the state.

Hamilton Wenham, 1; Amesbury, 1.

Junior Catherine Martin had her fourth goal of the year for the Generals (2-8-3) at home for the field hockey team versus Amesbury on Tuesday. Senior captain Julia Dolan and junior Liviy Ambrose both had great games on offensive. Next up for the team is Ipswich on Thursday.

Boys’ cross-country:

North Andover 18, Hamilton-Wenham, 38.

The boys’ cross-country team (7-3) suffered one of its few losses of the fall on their home course at last Thursday against North Andover.

Hamilton-Wenham, 20; Georgetown, 39.

The boys’ cross-country team (8-3) wrapped up the season as Cape Ann League small champions with a win over Georgetown on the road on Tuesday. It is the team’s sixth championship in a row.

Girls’ cross-country:

Hamilton-Wenham, 15; North Andover, 46.

The girls’ cross country team breezed by North Andover last Thursday on the team’s home course at Patton Park.

Hamilton-Wenham, 15; Georgetown, 50;

The girls’ cross country team (11-0) wrapped up its seventh undefeated season in a row on Tuesday with a win at Georgetown. The team also joins the boys’ team as Cape Ann League small champions for the seventh straight time.

Next up for both the boys’ and girls’ team is the Cape Ann League Championship on Saturday at .

Boys’ soccer:

Pentucket, 1; Hamilton-Wenham, 0.

The boys’ soccer team (7-5-2), which last week clinched a spot in the postseason with a win last Friday over Manchester-Essex, lost 1-0 to Pentucket Regional High School at home on Monday.

“We certainly had our scoring opportunities against a very good team,” said coach Matt Gauron.

The team next faces Ipswich High School on Wednesday at home.
