Generals Sports Roundup: Volleyball and Golf Grab Wins on Monday

The golf team grabbed another win on Monday over Manchester at as less than two miles up Bay Road the volleyball team was taking care of the Saugus High School team.

Volleyball:

Hamilton-Wenham, 3; Saugus, 1.

The Generals girls volleyball team (3-6) was 1-1 after two games with Saugus High School and then breezed to win the next two games at home on Monday with game scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-9.

Senior captain Keira McGrath had 21 kills as middle hitter and junior outside hitter Rachel Gershlak had 12 digs and played excellent defense. Nikki Leonard, a junior who plays libero, had 30 passes to setter and 17 serves.

The team next faces Revere at home on Friday.

Golf:

Hamilton-Wenham, 15; Manchester-Essex, 5.

The Generals (10-1) beat the Hornets 15-5 in match play on Monday at Myopia Hunt Club. Winners included Luke Farley, Brian Nicoll, Spencer Berkholtz and Joe Merrill. Luke Drieze had a great match after winning on the 9th hole with a 15-foot putt to win one up. Jack Keegan won half his match.

The team will be doing match play for the next five league matches in the division. They next face Masconomet Regional High School at home on Tuesday.

Field hockey:

Newburyport, 4; Hamilton-Wenham, 0.

Sophomore Taylor Ward had a strong game on defense for the Generals (2-4-1) in a 4-0 loss at home on Monday.

The team next faces North Reading on Wednesday on the road.

Girls’ Soccer:

Newburyport, 1; Hamilton-Wenham, 1.

Hamilton Wenham (1-7) lost to Newburyport High School 1-0 at home on Monday.

The girls' soccer team next faces Rockport High School on Wednesday afternoon at home.
