Kidnapped Woman Found Locked in Her Car Trunk in Wenham

Two passers-by freed a kidnapped woman from her own trunk early Monday morning along Route 128 in Wenham.

A woman who police said was forcibly abducted from her Beverly apartment Sunday night was found early Monday morning, locked the trunk of her car along Route 128 in Wenham, according to Beverly police.

The 24-year-old Beverly woman was discovered locked in the rear of her own car near exit 17 in Wenham at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

"The woman was discovered by two passing motorists who had stopped to provide assistance to what they believed to be an accident,” Beverly Police Chief Mark Ray said in a statement about the incident released on Monday morning.

Those motorists, who were not identified by police, heard a woman in the car and smashed the rear glass of the car to free the woman.

That’s when they called police and officers from Beverly Police, Massachusetts State Police and Wenham Police responded.

She was OK and suffered only minor scratches and bruises, police said, and refused medical attention.

The victim told police that sometime Sunday night at least two masked men entered her apartment and “forcibly abducted her.”

She was then ordered to drive her car until it was parked alongside Route 128 where her alleged abductors locked her in the rear of her car. That’s where she was found.

There has been no arrests in connection to the case and Beverly police said they continue to investigate.
