Little Leaguers 'Wait and See' After Win Over Middleton

The Hamilton-Wenham Generals used great defense and timely hitting to keep themselves alive in the District 15 Williamsport tournament with a 4-3 win against Middleton.

The Hamilton-Wenham Generals Little League team bounced back from by defeating Middleton 4-3 in Beverly Monday night.

Despite the heat, the boys came out fired up from the get-go as they hoped to redeem themselves from a game that slipped away from them just two days earlier.

Middleton’s pitching looked sharp from the start, keeping the Generals' explosive offense to a minimum. Coach Nick Cutler knew that they would have to claw their way to a victory.

“We battled their No. 1 pitcher tonight with each at bat,” Cutler said emphatically. “All the credit goes to our boys for fighting off tough pitches, getting a few key hits, while taking advantage of Middleton fielding errors and smart baserunning was enough to scratch a few runs up on the board early.”

Nico Serpa continued his impressive postseason tear with two more hits and another solid showing on the mound. Middleton, equally known for its powerful offense, was held to only one run during Serpa’s stay at pitcher.

Aidan Robinson also impacted the game early with an RBI single to get the scoring started for the Generals.

The Generals managed only three more runs the rest of the way, but that proved to be enough as they displayed great poise in the defensive half.

Unfortunately Middleton wasn’t the only opponent they were facing on Monday, as fans of the game created uproars about calls on the field early and often. The Generals collected themselves and fought through the distractions by keeping their eye on victory.

With the win, the Generals must now await the results from a game played between Middleton and Amesbury. If Amesbury wins the game tonight, then they will move on to play in the District 15 Championship.

However, if Middleton wins then there will be a three team tie for first place between Middleton, Amesbury and Hamilton-Wenham. If this happens, the team with the lowest runs allowed per inning average will move on to the championship.
