Local Equestrians to Junior Olympics

Local Young Riders named to the USEA North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) in Colorado, July 26-31, 2016.

Local Young Riders named to the United States Eventing Association (USEA) North American Junior and Young Rider Championship Team (NAJYRC). With the Rio Olympics upon us, let’s take a look at some of the up and coming Olympians who are competing in the Junior Olympics in two weeks.

Four local Equestrians have been named to represent the USEA Area 1 Team, which consists of New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine. They have all been riding for as long as they can remember; however, during the last nine months, the rider athletes have had to undergo the most selective selection trails process in the country this year. With over 12 qualified athletes, having successfully completed the Preliminary, CIC1* and CCI1* it came down to 9 riders, ages 15-18.

Cornelia Dorr, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, Eliza Eddy, of Ipswich, MA, Katie Lichten and Maddie Lichten, of Hamilton, MA, have been chosen to represent Area 1. Hamilton, MA, was formerly the home of the United States Equestrian Team in the 1980’s, until it moved to Gladstone, NJ. The entire team consists of 6 rider/horse combinations, with 4 riding for the team and 2 riding individually. Riding for the team will be Cornelia Dorr, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, Erica Jarrell of Lincoln, MA, Katie Lichten and Maddie Lichten, of Hamilton, MA, and riding for Individual Medals will be Eliza Eddy, of Ipswich, MA, and Haley Rosenberg, of Pleasantville, NY.

The North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) are the equivalent of the Junior Olympics in the Equestrian World.

They will take place July 27-31, 2016, in Parker, Colorado, at the Colorado Horse Park. While most disciplines of riding are competing at this International event, Cornelia, Eliza, Erica, Haley, Katie and Maddie will be competing in the discipline of Eventing. Eventing is a triathlon with horse and rider for all three phases of Dressage, Cross-country and Show Jumping. The horse and rider combination must compete and qualify together as a pair throughout all three phases.  We wish the entire team good luck at the championships!
