Hamilton and residents have received honors and been studing abroad while ogff at college or university. Here's a wrap-up of recent honors and activities.

Hamilton Resident Thomas Grimshaw Named a Charles O. Thompson Scholar

WORCESTER - Worcester Polytechnic Institute has announced that Thomas Grimshaw of South Hamilton, a first-year student majoring in electrical and computer engineering, has been named a Charles O. Thompson Scholar for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Named in honor of the first president of WPI, this honor recognizes outstanding performance by first-year students. To be eligible for membership, students must receive all A's and B's (with a minimum of six A's) in their academic subjects during their first three terms at WPI.

Aaron Ross Studies Abroad at Champlain's Dublin Campus

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Aaron Ross, a digital filmmaking major from South Hamilton, is currently studying abroad at the Champlain College campus in Dublin, Ireland. At Champlain's academic center in Dublin, Ross and other students have the opportunity to receive international perspective and prepare to be global professionals.

Ross, a junior, will be studying in Ireland for the remainder of the spring semester. Local Champlain faculty and staff at the Dublin campus provide guided immersion tours, as well as encourage students to make their own travel opportunities.

Local Residents Named to UMass Lowell Dean's List

LOWELL - Local residents were recently recognized for achieving academic distinction during the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Fall 2012 semester.

To qualify for the Dean's List, students must have completed at least 12 graded credits for the semester, have at least a 3.25 grade point average with no grade lower than C and may not have any incompletes.

Local students named to the Dean's List are:

John Andre of South Hamilton, majoring in psychology

Meagan Cotton of South Hamilton, majoring in liberal arts

Derek Tanch of South Hamilton, majoring in music studies

Derek Dempsey of Wenham, majoring in electrical engineering

Sean Reid of Wenham, majoring in computer science
