Masco Overpowers Lady Generals
The Generals came out flat against a primed Masconomet squad, who never let up in a largely one-sided game on Monday night.
At the start of the girls' basketball game on Monday night at , one of the officials had to let some air out of the ball to get it to regulation.
Like the ball, the Generals played deflated as the Masconomet High School team jumped all over early opportunities, pulling ahead quickly.
The Chieftains consistently forced steals, which were turned into fast break points in the 51-26 loss for the Generals. Meanwhile, the Generals struggled to adapt to their game. Masco made easy baskets - distancing them further - while also eating up a good portion of the clock.

Masco bogged down the Generals offense with tenacious defense that produced a huge percentage of the Chieftans' points. Masco also racked up several points from the foul line and Hamilton-Wenham couldn’t manage to get much penetration into the visitor’s paint.
Masco was successful at bottling up the Generals around the perimeter and any points by the Generals were soon erased by the Chieftains' high field goal rate and their ability to drive to the basket.
Masco was devastating on the offensive boards, allowing them many looks at the hoop. The Generals failed to keep Masco out of the key, led by a stellar performance by Danielle Davis, one of Masconomet’s high scorers.
The Chieftains have a potential league title game on Friday after having already qualified for the state tournament, at 10-1 in the Cape Ann League.
General coach Bill Burridge offered some distraught words following the game.
“We didn’t play very well,” he said. “We came out flat.”
Hamilton-Wenham’s coach was a little puzzled after coming off a good week of practices and games.
“To say it was a disappointment is a gross understatement,” Burridge said, adding he expected to have the team make it up on Tuesday night against CAL-opponent North Reading.
