Middle School Students Honored for Improved Performance, Drama Success

Miles River Middle School students Celia Cronan and Drew Willis have been recognized for their success with an Outstanding Accomplishment certificate from the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club.

Cronan received the award for Excellence in the Performing Arts and Willis for Most Improved Academically. The awards were presented to the students at a recent Rotary meeting at the Community House of Hamilton-Wenham.

“I have enjoyed Celia in my eigth grade drama class, as well as in the drama festival after school," Cronan's teacher said in presenting the award. "She is a creative and thoughtful individual who takes risks with her work and is an asset to our class. She has been such a positive addition to whatever it is we have done.”

“Drew is in my grade 6 English class; Earlier in the year, he hovered in the C grade range," said Willis' teacher. "During this term, Drew has used effective effort to complete all homework assignments thoroughly…and has put forth noteworthy effort in preparing for the Open Response selections on upcoming MCAS. Specifically, he has made great progress incorporating text-based evidence and explanations into his expository writing. He is an enthusiastic participant in class every day. He is the class MIP (Most Improved Player).”

In addition to the certificates, pictures of both students will be put up at the Miles River Middle School. Rotary has also provided a wall plaque at the school on which their names will go along with those of past and future winners.

Outstanding Accomplishment awards have been given for leadership, good citizenship, excellence in the performing arts or extracurricular activity, sportsmanship, most improved academically and academic excellence.           

The Student of the Month program is a joint venture between the Hamilton-Wenham Rotary Club and the Miles River Middle School. Catherine Frost coordinates this program at the middle school and Tom Ackerman oversees it for Rotary.
