Pingree Senior from North Reading Victim in Fatal Car Crash

An 18-year-old North Reading male was identified as the sole victim in a fatal car crash Saturday morning on Route 128 in Danvers.

The driver killed in a Saturday morning car crash in Danvers was a senior at Pingree School in Hamilton.

State police have identified the victim as 18-year-old Timothy Chaloux of North Reading.

Chaloux was driving a 2011 Honda Civic on the southbound side of Route 128 in Danvers when the car veered off the roadway near Exit 23 and into a wooded area, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The car came to a stop on a hill leading down toward Home Depot at the Liberty Tree Mall.

Troopers assigned to the Danvers barracks responded to the scene at approximately 6:55 a.m., along with Danvers police and firefighters, after receiving a call from someone who spotted the vehicle in the woods.

State police said Chaloux sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. No indication was given as to what initially led to the accident.

Chaloux played third base for the Highlanders' varsity baseball team and in a season preview in the Salem News earlier this month was identified as one of the team's "key returnees."

According to police radio transmissions last night, police were trying to locate a teen and a car that matched Chaloux's description and that of the Honda for a well-being check.

The vehicle had reportedly left Marblehead between midnight and 1 a.m. headed back to North Reading, but didn't arrive when expected to.

Pingree released a statement Saturday afternoon.

"We are deeply saddened by the unfathomable news of the tragic death of Tim Chaloux, a charismatic senior at Pingree who was looking forward to graduation and college. There are no words to communicate the impact of this loss. He will forever be remembered in our closely knit school community. Right now, our sympathies and love are with Tim's family," the statement said.
