Fire crews requested that MedFlight respond because of the severity of his injuries, which included having trouble breathing.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also contacted since investigators did not believe that the worker should have been on the scaffolding by himself. A spokesman for OSHA did not return a phone message or e-mail on Monday morning, which is a federal holiday.

Goodwin said he was not sure whether the painter worked at the farm or for an outside painting company. The incident remained under investigation and more information would be available on Tuesday, he said.

“We really don’t have a comment, said Babette Lenna, who runs the 17-acre farm. It used to be a training facility for the U.S, Equestrian team.
