Police to 'Takeback' Expired, Unused or Unwanted Drugs Saturday

A drug takeback day will be held at the Hamilton and Wenham police stations on Saturday.

The Hamilton and Wenham police departments are working with the Drug Enforcement Administration on a National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day that takes place on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is free and anonymous with no questions asked.

“This is a great opportunity for those who have missed previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications,” according to an announcement from the Hamilton police.

Residents who want to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs or syringes should bring it to either the Hamilton Police Department or Wenham Police Department on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

ln the four previous Take-Back events, the DEA in conjunction with state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies have collected more than 2 million pounds (1,018 tons) of prescription medications which were removed from circulation.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is designed to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of these medications.
