PRESS RELEASE

Rachel’s Challenge visits Manchester-Essex Regional Middle and High Schools on Monday, September 22, 2014

Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was a victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of people every year. Many schools have brought Rachel’s Challenge into their schools to address concerns such as bullying, student isolation, teen suicide and discrimination. Rachel’s Challenge provides tough and powerful presentations, trainings, community events and professional development to work with students, parents/guardians, staff and community members. Rachel’s inspiring story provides a simple, yet powerful example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people we come in contact with every day. Rachel’s story gives us permission to start our own chain reaction of kindness and compassion, which positively affects the climate in our schools and communities.

Rachel’s Challenge is visiting Manchester-Essex Regional Middle and High Schools on Monday, September 22, 2014. There will be a middle school presentation at 8:00am, a high school presentation at 9:30am, an afternoon training with student leaders, and an evening event for parents, guardians and community members at 7:00pm in the MERMHS Auditorium. This evening event is free and open to the public, and designed to complement the work we have done during the day with students.

This program is funded through the generous donations of the Spaulding Education Foundation and Parents of Manchester-Essex Middle School PTO. We are grateful for their ongoing support!
