Senior Runner 'Brought Home the Bacon' as Team Finishes Second in State
The high school girls' cross-country team was second in the all-state meet on Saturday in Boston, capping another impressive year for the consistently top performing program.
The girls’ cross-country team from is second best in the state – for the third straight year.
The dominance is virtually unparalleled – before the streak of three straight second place Div. 2 finishes, the team won the Div. 2 state championship in 2008.
The Generals were second on Saturday at in the 19-team field - essentially the best of the best from . On Saturday, the team the Generals squeaked by a week earlier - Weston – was 20 points behind in third place this week.

Bishop Feehan of Attleboro was the Div. 2 champion for the third straight year.
The most impressive performance of the day for the Generals was the team’s fifth and final scorer - senior Emily Senning. Coach Steve Sawyer said she improved her time on the same Franklin Park course by 10:41 since last week.

She “brought home the bacon,” Sawyer said.
All five scorers ran faster than they did last week, when the team captured the Div. 5 Eastern Massachusetts championship.
The top finisher for the Generals in the all-state race was senior Kerry Phelan in fourth place at 18:58. That was followed by freshman Emily Weigand (15, 19:24), junior Margaret Blatchford (20, 19:35) and sophomore Emily Horgan (21, 19:39).
Weigand was the top freshman finisher in the Div. 2 race and both Phelan and Weigand were named all-state all-stars.
Other Generals finishers included junior Claire Pacione (47, 20:24) and junior Sarah Duffy (77, 20:56).
