Stage 284 at The Community House presents "Mean Girls the Musical"

Many people know Mean Girls. They’ve seen the movie. They can quote the lines. They know The Plastics, the Burn Book, and the rules of high school survival. Stage 284’s production of Mean Girls the Musical, running March 6–29, offers something the screen never could: the electricity of live performance.

Based on the hit film written by Tina Fey, the Broadway musical adaptation features music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin. On stage, the story expands. Characters don’t just trade sharp one-liners, they sing what they can’t say out loud. Emotions become bigger, stakes feel higher, and humor hits harder. On screen, Mean Girls is clever and quotable. On stage, it’s immersive. The choreography pulses. The vocals fill the room. Regina’s confidence is magnetic. Cady’s transformation feels more dangerous. Janis’ rebellion lands sharper. The emotional cost of social climbing feels immediate.

For teens, the show reflects a world shaped by social media, image, and pressure to belong. For adults, it hits with nostalgia, and a sharper understanding of how fragile adolescence really is.
