Thai Forest Monk Offers Meditation Workshop In Wenham

There will be an Insight Meditation workshop on Friday, February 19 at the new Center for Mindfulness and Insight Meditation in Wenham.

Thai Forest monk and meditation master, Achan Da Nilpant, will offer a public talk and introduction to Mahasati insight meditation, on Friday evening, February 19, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the new Center for Mindfulness & Insight Meditation, 72 Grapevine Rd, Wenham. There will also be a one-day meditation retreat on Saturday the 20th, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, but people unfamiliar with Mahasati meditation must attend the Friday introduction before attending the retreat. Achan Da has been teaching insight meditation for over 30 years. He served as Abbott of the Thatkong monastery near the Laos border in Thailand, and is now Abbott of the Redding Center for Meditation/Wat Sati-Ma in Redding, CT.

Achan Da teaches a form of insight meditation, known as Mahasati meditation, that uses attention to the movement of the body as a way to cultivate mindfulness. Mahasati does not require the adoption of any religious beliefs, and the introduction and retreat are suitable for both new and experienced meditators. Both chairs and meditation cushions are available at the Center for people’s comfort. While the meditation practice itself is done in silence, there will be talks by Achan Da, and short discussion periods throughout the program. There is no charge to attend, but space is limited and advance registration is required. For more information, click here or email Michael@MahasatiMeditation.org, or call 978-515-7648.
