Third Hole At Lakeview Is The Hardest Par 3

This is the first of a look at nine fun, interesting, picturesque or difficult holes at local courses starts at Lakeview in Wenham.

Hole: Third
Course:
Location:
Wenham
Par:
3
Yards:
171 (blue tees); 147 (white); 133 (red)

With a par of 31 for the course, obviously Lakeview Golf Course is going to be littered with par 3s. So it will take something to set the five holes with the shortest yardage apart.

All you have to do is finish the first two holes before you get to the most challenging par 3 on the 2001-yard layout: the 171-yard third hole.

First it stands out with its three different tee box levels. Then when you look out at the fairway you notice it is as narrow – with woods on the left and a few trees jutting out into the fairway on the right - as any challenging course you may have played. Being a pretty good length, some who aren’t big hitters may find themselves in one of the two sand traps that protects the small green, on the front left and front right. And if you overshoot the green you will have to contend with the trees that surround the back.

The two golfers I played with both liked it as their favorite par 3.

Mike Coleman of Wenham liked how it appeared shorter to make it difficult. Alan Wall, a Peabody resident, thought it was “tight and narrow and interesting.”
