Monument Street in Wenham was closed for a time midday on Friday.

One person was taken to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash that closed Monument Street in Wenham midday on Friday.

The crash happened at about 11:45 a.m. in front of 11 Monument St., just up the street from Wenham Tea House, said Wenham Police Captain Jeff Tobey.

One driver, who police described as an elderly lady, was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital to be checked out. Her name was not released. Nobody else was injured.

Officer Robert Breaker continues to investigate the crash and it is possible that a ticket could be issued, Tobey said. Breaker is waiting for the outcome of statements from witnesses and the drivers.

Monument Street was closed for about a half hour while the tow company removed the cars. While it was not a serious crash, Tobey said the position of the cars and the ambulance that was getting the woman ready for transport took up the entire road.
