No one was in the house, which was deemed a total loss and was believed to have been under construction or renovation.

GLOUCESTER, MA — A large two-alarm fire ripped through a single-family home late Saturday night. No one was home during the fire, which officials said appeared to be under construction or renovation.

Firefighters had a difficult time containing the blaze at 33 Two Penney Lane, with the fire spreading to grass and trees. A piece of burning debris landed on the neck of a firefighter, who continued to battle the flames. He was not hospitalized.

Firefighters battled the wild fire from the outside, utilizing a defensive attack. They used a water supply featuring nearly a half-mile of hose line.
