Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint Planned

Massachusetts State Police say that a sobriety checkpoint is planned on a road in Essex County on Saturday night.

A sobriety checkpoint is coming up this weekend somewhere in Essex County.

Col. Marian J. McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, announced this week that a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday night, May 7 into Sunday, May 8.

“The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways,” McGovern said in a press release announcing the checkpoint. “It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety.”
