Today's riddle: What is seen in the middle of March and April that can’t be seen at the beginning or end of either month? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Embracing the Past, Stepping into the Future (traditionalbuilding.com) — A massive Historic New England project is transforming former Haverhill shoe factories into a major cultural center, with the first Welcome and Exhibition Center opening in summer 2026. The multi-phase plan could add housing, retail, arts spaces, and green space while honoring the city’s shoemaking past. Expect new exhibits, including a notable Stuart Weitzman shoe collection, to draw regional attention to Haverhill.

2. WHAV: Trahan, Moulton Request Federal Aid for Haverhill Sewage Emergency (house.gov) — Haverhill’s recent sewer main collapse has its congressional delegation pressing the EPA for emergency and long-term federal funding to repair and modernize the city’s aging wastewater system. The break sent sewage into the Merrimack River, cost millions to bypass, and highlighted how small cities like Haverhill struggle to afford critical infrastructure upgrades without stronger federal support.

3. Merrimack Valley Transit Authority service resumes after bus drivers strike (masslive.com) — Bus riders in Haverhill can once again use Merrimack Valley Transit Authority routes after a week-and-a-half strike by unionized drivers and staff ended with a one-year contract deal. The agreement restores fare-free service while leaving some weekend scheduling issues to be worked out with outside help, after months of tense negotiations over overtime and mandatory shifts.

4. State Offers Aid to Shellfish Industry Following Haverhill Sewage Release (whav.net) — State officials are sending $300,000 in relief to North Shore shellfish harvesters after emergency sewage discharges from Haverhill into the Merrimack River forced nearly two weeks of closures. The Division of Marine Fisheries says testing now shows shellfish are safe, and many areas from Gloucester to Salisbury should reopen soon, depending on the weather. Haverhill’s sewer overflow remains the incident at the center of this regional disruption.
