A Sneak Peek at the New Middle School

The School Building Committee looked at photo-realistic renderings that showed what the new Hingham Middle School could look like.

Designer Ai3 presented the School Building Committee with photo-realistic renderings of what the new Hingham Middle School could look like on Wednesday night.

Ai3's presentation showed many new changes to the Middle School which included improvements to the fitness center and gymnasium, Special Education facilities, a parent drop-off area at the front of the school, the re-positioning of the elevator in the Lobby, the location of the computer desks in the library and the arrangement of the sports fields.

Jim Jordan of Ai3 stressed that that there is still a lot of work to be done before the design is submitted to the MSBA on August 19.

“We are still talking about refining the detail,” said Jordan.

Jordan said there will be “internal tweaking”  done at Ai3 before the final designs could be presented for public display.

Apart from the final design, the Building Committee is still waiting for the Traffic Report,  and the chance to discuss the Geotechnical Report with the option to seek a peer review if required.

Raymond Estes, Chair of Building Committee, is confident that they are closer to a concrete design for the Middle School and sees the next step as outreaching to the community for their thoughts and response to the proposed design.

The committee  scheduled two meetings in  August with neighbors and residents to discuss the Middle School plans.

The first of these proposed meetings is  to take place on August 4 at the Middle School where neighbors will have the chance to see the design renderings, study the floor plans and meet with the designers from Ai3.

On August 10, the committee will hold an open meeting at the Town Hall for all Hingham residents to present the progress of the middle school project.  It is anticipated that it will be televised live with a question and answer process.

“We want to meet with people,”  Estes said. “We will be having a meeting where we invite the neighbors to a presentation where we can show them what we’re looking at and go beyond the aesthetics and spaces. We can talk about the overall construction process, what the overall project will be like and what the impact will be.”
