Americans Encouraged to Hang Flag in Remembrance of Pearl Harbor

President Obama encourages Americans to lower the American flag to half-staff.

Hingham Veterans’ Service Director Keith Jermyn is reminding residents to hang the stars and stripes on Friday for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

“On the direction of the President, the flag of the United States of America should be displayed on the homes of Americans, the White House and all United States government buildings,” Jermyn said. “The flag should be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset to honor those who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor.”

Pearl Harbor Day, December 7, commemorates the attack on Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, during World War II.  Friday marks the 71st anniversary of the attacks.
