Aquarion Water Company Calls for Mandatory Restrictions on Sprinkler Use
Aquarion is asking Hingham residents to use less water from their irrigation systems and sprinklers because of dry weather.

Aquarion Water Company of Massachusetts announced this week that they have initiated mandatory outdoor water restrictions for their customers in Hingham and suroounding towns.
Under these restrictions, Hingham homes with even house number addresses can water their lawn, plants, and using their sprinklers and irigation systems between 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. on even numbered days. Homes with odd numbered addresses can water between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. on odd numbered days. Hand-held hoses are allowed at any time.
According to Aquarion Water Company, this action is being taken because recent hot, dry weather has resulted in a high demand for water.

"The lack of rainfall since July 5th, along with recent high temperatures, has prompted more outside water usage," Aquarion released in a statement. "In an effort to conserve the water supply and protect the environment, we are asking that our customers restrict their outside water usage."
Anyone who does not comply with the restrictions will face a a written warning. Subsequent violations can result in a discontinuance of water service and fines ranging from $49.00 to $294.00 depending on the day of the week, time of day and holidays, according to Aquarion’s Rules and Regulations.

Aquarion recommends several ways to use water wisely to help in the water conservation effort:
- Allow grass to grow longer -- taller grass shades itself, is healthier and requires less water.
- Be careful not to allow irrigation water to fall on paved areas.
- Use brooms or blowers, instead of water, to clean decks, driveways and sidewalks.
- Repair all leaks in plumbing and fixtures.
- Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow faucet aerators.
