Bow Thayer Set to Rock at Hingham Acoustic Concert
Bow Thayer will perform at the historic Old Ship Meeting House on Oct. 13.

It has been a busy couple of years for former Hingham resident Bow Thayer as he prepares to play the nationally historic Old Ship Meeting House Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. The tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.sscmusic.org.
He has had two albums on the charts -- one with his acoustic band Holy Plow and the other with the electric Perfect Trainwreck.

Thayer just released a retrospective CD capturing the past 15 years and is releasing his brand new concept album EDEN this January.
Thayer and PTW just won this year's Boston Rock 'N' Roll Rumble. They shared the stage with Ringo Starr, Booker T, Joe Walsh and a few other Hall of Fame/Grammy winners as the house band for the Lennon charity launch (Imagine no Hunger). Levon Helm had Bow open up eight of his legendary Midnight Rambles and I was lucky to tag along to most of them and being in his barn re kindled the idea I had many years earlier to put on a concert in Old Ship. The Old Ship concert will feature his electric band Perfect Trainwreck but stripped down to mostly acoustic music.

The audience can expect to hear banjo, piano, mandolin, guitar, and percussion among other instruments. The David Hull Band will be the special opening act. He just recently released his first solo CD to critical acclaim but has been a staple in the Boston Music scene for decades playing bass in bands like Joe Perry Project and James Montgomery Band, even going back to playing at Jimi Hendrix's funeral at age 17 in the Buddy Miles Band.
Concert organizers say the sound inside Old Ship is "simply amazing," and they hope to capture it by filming and recording the evening for a DVD release. Also, $500 of the proceeds will benefit a children's scholarship to South Shore Conservatory of Music in Hingham. In fact, one of their students will play three songs to start the night off.
"This is not your average venue as it has no running water or food/drinks inside," said event organizer Michael Dann. "Aquarion Water has generously donated drinking water for outside before and during the intermission. We encourage folks to come down town early to dine at one of the many restaurants for a meal beforehand or just check out some of the many shops in walking distance from the concert."
Music and entertainment are nothing new to Hingham. "I wish to carry on that tradition," Dann said. "Bow is just one of many extremely talented musicians that Hingham has produced and it is my pleasure to bring this special event to the town."
