An Even Keel-On the Lighter Side

I love technology but at times I have to take a break. I have my lap top on which I am typing this blog entry while sitting on my back deck on a very comfortable afternoon.

When I first set up my profile before blogging my intent was to blog twice a week and keep an even balance of serious and less serious subject matters. It looks like I jumped right into the serious and believe me I have plenty more; so today I will attempt something on the lighter side.

I love technology but at times I have to take a break. I have my lap top on which I am typing this blog entry while sitting on my back deck on a very comfortable afternoon. I have my iphone from which I can stay connected with telephone calls, e-mails and twitter.

No, I don’t do Facebook. I had been seriously considering setting up a Facebook page for business as I really believe in social media for business, unfortunately I was laid off two weeks ago so the necessity for that has fallen by the wayside for the moment. I am currently in the planning stages of creating a couple of social media events for the South Shore Ad Club that will be held next fall, stay tuned for more info.

Technology allows me to listen to music on my phone, play games, shows me how to get to where I am going via the GPS functionality. Speaking of that small item; the GPS functionality is probably one of the best features on a phone or as part of a cars system. No longer can guys be tagged by women as never stopping to ask for directions, it’s cool to get directions on you cars navigation system or your phone.

I am able to stay in closer contact with loved ones and friends via e-mail, txt and on the spot telephone calls, except for when the signal is too weak or non existent. My only communication with my son is via txt; e-mail is old fashion to him. Mind you he is 30, go figure and I actually still have a home land line telephone, I must be a dinosaur.

Technology allows me to keep track of my bills and finances, read a book at the spur of the moment by making a simple download, heck I can even watch TV shows or movies on one of many different types of devices.

I get great workouts in the winter months using the wii, of course I do have to do the actual workout. At least the wii unit isn’t has big and bulky and taking up tons of room like an unused treadmill, weight set etc.

I play Words with Friends with opponents all around the country at any hour of the day and night. The three of us in our household play each other while sitting in the same room or in different rooms throughout the house. Now tell me Alec Baldwin being addicted to WWF and thrown of a plane wasn’t a publicity stunt for the company on the week it was about to go public.

All in all I love technology, but my favorite times are riding my bike and being away from technology. Ok let me rephrase; not paying attention to technology while I ride. I keep my phone in my pocket that has the biking app running measuring my speed, distance and mapping my route. Yes I love technology.

My truly technology free periods, when I actually take a break from technology, are early on weekend mornings. I will sit out on my back deck with a cup of tea, a Miami roll and the sounds of nature as the world starts to wake up; those are my true down times.
