Hingham Yacht Club to Host The USA Junior Olympics Sailing Festival Next Week

The Junior Olympics Sailing Program, known commonly as the "JO's", will be held at the Hingham Yacht Club July 12-15. Junior Olympic (JO) sailing started in 1997 by US Sailing. The goal of the program is to draw more young sailors to the sport through this nationwide family of events. Each regatta is hosted by a different club or organization, but all share a common goal: to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing and to develop their skill. The JO regatta is open to all youth sailors ages 8 to 21, from beginning racers to those with Olympic aspirations. Junior Olympic sailing is now in it’s 15th year. Over 47,000 sailors have participated since the program began.

This is one of the premier Junior Sailing Events in The Commonwealth and will bring several hundred sailors to the shores of Hingham Harbor.  If you take a ride along Route 3A next week, you will undoubtately not miss all of the boats, sailors, and their gear for the event.

Youth Sailing is alive and well on the South Shore with Community based programs such has Hingham's Lincoln Sailing Center, or Cohasset's Sailing Club, boasting record enrollments.  And the same can be said at both the Hingham Yacht Club and the storied Cohasset Yacht Club.
