Spring Cleaning...Well, Sort Of...

Have you done your Spring Cleaning yet???

Every year at some point we begin the process of “Spring Cleaning”. You know, the time when the winter clothes get put away, the Christmas wreath from months ago gets tossed, and the familiar smell of the mighty power of Pine Sol baby (for those familiar with the commercial). Or if you procrastinate like myself, your Spring Cleaning takes place in the fall. Regardless of when you begin it gets done one way or another.

I was cleaning my office this morning rocking out to my usual playlist on my iPhone when something dawned on me…the word Cleanse. The dictionary defines the word as “to make clean”. Pretty self-explanatory huh? Between taking the trash out and vacuuming it really got me thinking what about me? Yes I cleanse myself daily like we all do by showering, brushing our teeth, and putting on the all important deodorant. But, what about my faith?

Just like Spring Cleaning we throw away all the junk that’s been building up throughout the year. But do we ever really stop and think about the “junk” that’s been building up in us throughout the year? The stresses of work, family and finance to name a few. All of the stresses in life not only affect us mentally but also spiritually. You here a lot of people say sometimes I’m burned out from life. Trust me, it can happen. But what do we do when were burned out? Do we take that much-needed vacation from work and head to the warm weather? Do we avoid the in-laws who want to come and visit? The answer overall is yes.

But why not take that much-needed vacation with God? Why not say to Him…God, I’m stressed help me out. Is it because we’re afraid? Worried He won’t listen to us? Could be. But it can’t hurt to try. I’ve said this to the youth group time and time again, God is with You wherever You go. He’s with you at home, school, and the sports fields.

The point I’m trying to make is that Spring Cleaning is part of our life. As much as we hate it, it has to get done. But when you’re scrubbing away at the tub and sink, removing all that “junk” that’s been building up, stop and think about what junk has been building up in your spiritual life. Take a few minutes to say a prayer to God.

Thank Him for the power of Pine Sol for all I care, but take that time to cleanse your faith. It might be the most important part of Spring Cleaning you do.
