Top Ten Youth Sports Cringe Phrases

As the spring sports come to a close, a reflection on what not to say. Here is a list of what makes a youth sports coach cringe.

The Top Ten Phrases Coaches Hate to Hear Regarding Youth Sports

The residents of Hingham know how lucky they are to live in the quintessential New England town.   They cherish their proximity to the water and the town's maritime heritage.  But these days it seems they may cherish their very successful youth sports programs even more.  Granted there are some residents who have found tremendous success in the business world, and I would agree on some level, that imparting that drive for success into your children is a useful life lesson.  It just may not be all that healthy to promote the win at all costs attitude 24/7 on any and all fields while the stated goal of the program is attempting to develop a love for the game at hand.  And it is notable that not all kids develop at the same level.

For any parent who has coached youth sports, you can surely relate to this situation.  There is that the knot that forms in your stomach when a parent of a player on your team approaches you, the volunteer coach of their child’s team.  And the knot tightens when the conversation begins with, “Can I ask you a question?”  Hence I thought I would post The Top Ten questions that make a youth sports coach cringe.
