Braintree Mom Launches New Pathway for Young Adults

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

Today's Memorial Day Observance in Hingham will begin at 11 a.m. at the Town Commons. Colonel Frank Curtis, a Commanding Officer of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 95th Division, will be today's guest speaker.  Curtis, is a Braintree native who once commanded the Army's 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Baghad, Iraq. Before his speech, all veterans and their families along with  the Hingham High School band, the Boy Scouts will be positioned on the streets around the Hingham Commons.  All living veterans and those who have passed away will be honored at the observance. The ceremony will be called  by new Town Moderator Michael Puzo and will also include music from the HHS band, a wreath laying by the boy scoutsand an invocation by Rev. John McHugh. Seating will provided, but guests are asked to bring lawn chairs.  There will also be a luncheon, which will follow the service for all veterans at the GAR Hall at 358 Main Street. If it rains, the ceremony will be held at the Town Hall's Sanborn Auditorium.
