The Company Theatre to Hold Open Auditions for The 39 Steps

The Company Theatre announces open auditions for their upcoming production of Patrick Barlow’s The 39 Steps, to be held Monday, July 6 at 7 pm and callbacks on Tuesday, July 7 at 6:00 pm, at The Company Theatre Centre for the Arts, 30 Accord Park Drive, Norwell. All roles are open for casting, a rehearsal schedule will be available at the audition. The production will be directed by Patrick Gallagher.

An adaptation of John Buchan’s adventurous and thrilling book, The 39 Steps was critically acclaimed on Broadway as a 6-time Tony Award nominee, and winner of both the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and the 2008 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. During its debut Broadway production, The New York Post labeled The 39 Steps “The most entertaining show on Broadway!”

This fast-paced whodunit draws its magic from the suspense of a Hitchcock masterpiece film combined with a juicy spy novel, and a dash of Monty Python tossed in for theatrical good measure. This wildly ingenious and fast paced comedy-thriller casts only four actors portraying over 150 zany characters in a whirlwind tale based on the 1935 film classic. This typically British affair runs the gamut with an onstage plane crash, a train roof top chase, and a nation-wide manhunt spiraling to a death defying finale. Nonstop laughs make The 39 Steps a rollicking fun display of theatrical invention. The New York Times exclaims “Theatre at its finest! Absurdly enjoyable! This gleefully theatrical riff … is fast and frothy, performed by a cast of four that seems like a cast of thousands.”

All four roles are open for casting, including 3 adult male roles and one adult female. Audition candidates arrive prepared to perform a short monologue and then will be asked to read from The 39 Steps script. Audition candidates should bring a headshot or snapshot, and a resume is helpful but not required.

Performances of The 39 Steps will be held from October 9 through 25, with show times at 7:30 or 8:00 pm from Thursday through Saturday. Sunday matinee performances will be held at 3:00 pm.
