Dining Around the World
Did you know your town offers places to sample all the tastes of the world? The Saturday Patch Passport is a complete list of places to eat in your town organized by international flavor.
American:
You had me at “Yellow Fin Tuna Two Ways.” Soy and citrus, sesame seared, seaweed salad and wasabi cream? Well, I’d be happy with one way, never mind two… but if you insist.
And this is just the beginning, friends. See, this “new” American food bistro aims to “nourish the soul” and apparently wants me to have a conniption deciding between their dozens of delectable dishes. Yes, with seven starters and seven salads, it’s hard to decide where to start for your first course, or maybe make it a meal by pairing a couple of different starters together? But if you’re anything like me, you can’t afford to miss the mains.

Asian:
If you’re looking for something a little bit more exotic with which to tantalize your taste buds, but don’t want to leave the south shore for some downtown dining, fear not. Typhoon Asian Bistro, a Boston-based Asian fusion restaurant, has just opened a location in the Hingham Shipyard. Now, this isn’t your usual Americanized Chinese take out with greasy noodles, pork fried rice and chicken wings. Typhoon is fresh and relatively healthy.

Asian:
Asian C was rated the best new eating establishment in 2007 by Marketing Surveys of America. Inside, the restaurant appears new and clean, with a nice waiting area with a television and a sushi bar in front. The Asian decorations are simple and tasteful and there is plenty of seating. Stop by on Saturdays between 9 p.m. and midnight for karaoke.
Italian:
Alma Nove offers harborside dining at the Hingham Shipyard. It combines traditional Italian cuisine with inspiration from all over the Mediterranean. The menu features antipasto, seafood, pasta dishes, steaks, pork chops and wood-grilled selections. Desserts, wine, micro-brewed beers and cocktails are also available.
Mexican:
The Hingham location is in a small shopping center just west of downtown Hingham. Salsa's serves high-quality Mexican food in a quiet atmosphere. There's also a full bar. Check out Salsa's signature fajitas and other recipes that have been passed down within the chef's family.
Irish:
Not your typical pub, The Snug is family friendly and a good place for catching some live entertainment. This Irish pub even serves breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as lunch and dinner daily. The restaurant is small but does not feel crowded with the bar area and dining tables on separate sides. There's a local, welcoming feel to The Snug and local bands perform on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Check out the microbrew of the month or one of the many beers from around the world.
Thai:
Owner and chef Suwanna Cury recently added lunch hours to her restaurant because she's already there preparing for the dinner rush. Open since 2004, Muang Thai is decorated beautifully with statues, a wooden cage full of fortune cookies and photographs. The food is all Thai, with offerings ranging from Wild Boar Basil to Chicken Pine Nuts. Sit down in the cozy dining area or call ahead to pick up an order.
