South Shore Art Center will present a national juried exhibition Earth, Wind & Fire in the Bancroft Gallery from April 10 through May 24. An opening reception will be held Friday, April 10 from 6 to 8 pm and is open to the public, free of charge.
Carl Belz, Director Emeritus at the Rose Art Museum, selected the work. Winners include:
1st Prize: Godzilla, Billy Tackett (Kentucky)- Godzilla’s enjoyed many incarnations since his cinematic appearance in 1954, but none as singularly appealing as this highly accomplished, colorful portrait. I was totally surprised and floored by it, even made to forget momentarily the monster’s devastating atomic breath.

2nd Prize: Gravity of Fire, Drew Gaffney (Hingham) - Abstract art bespeaks freedom, for artist and viewer alike, but the best of it recognizes that freedom meaningfully exists only within limitations, thus the balance between spontaneity and order in this painting. As in life, so in art.
3rd Prize: Hull Windmill, Darlene Gillan (Hull) - It’s said that a good picture is worth a thousand words. In front of this one, I found myself thinking, “How much for one that says it all?”
