Florida Man Arrested For Drunken Boating in Hingham

Police say a 22-year-old Florida man was speeding his boat while under the influence of alcohol.

A 22 year-old Florida man was arrested on Tuesday after police said he was racing his 21-foot boat while under the influence of alcohol.

Hingham Harbormaster Kenneth Corson stopped the Boston Whaler Outrage driven by Clayton Thomas Ilioff, 22, of 801 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL at 5:45 p.m. in the water near Causeway Road, after he received reports of a speeding boat, police Sgt. Steven Dearth said.

When Corson along with an Assistant Harbormaster approached the boat at a nearby dock, the found beer cans and bottles in the cup holders and the floor of the boat, police said.

The operator’s eyes  also appeared glassy and bloodshot, his speech was slurred and he was unsteady on his feet, Sgt. Dearth said.

Illiof admitted he had been drinking and after a series of tests were conducted at the scene he was arrested, his boat was towed and its passengers were transported to a dock on Downer Avenue. Additional field sobriety tests were conducted on shore, and police determined the driver to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Illiof was arraigned on Wednesday on a single count of Boating Under the Influence of Alcohol, and is due to return to court on September 18.
