Dharma Dreams Vocational Center

Dharma Dreams Vocational Center is a nonprofit vocational and life skills program based in Hanover, Massachusetts, serving young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive disabilities. Our mission is to help students build practical job skills in the trades, confidence, independence, emotional regulation, and workplace readiness through hands-on vocational training and supportive learning experiences. The program was created in response to the growing need for meaningful transition opportunities for young adults as they move beyond high school and into adulthood. Many families struggle to find programs that combine practical workforce preparation, life skills development, communication skills, confidence-building, and supportive real-world learning experiences. Dharma Dreams offers hands-on exposure to vocational areas such as landscaping and grounds maintenance, painting and surface preparation, workplace professionalism, entrepreneurship basics, and life skills training. Students also learn mind-body techniques that support focus, confidence, emotional regulation, stress management, and workplace success. Our introductory summer program, launching at the end of July, is designed to help students and families become familiar with the program and explore vocational interests before participating in longer-term programming. Long-term programming focuses on helping students develop greater independence, workplace readiness, responsibility, confidence, and practical trade skills through structured, hands-on learning experiences. Dharma Dreams Vocational Center aims to create supportive pathways toward greater independence, meaningful employment opportunities, and a stronger sense of purpose while helping young adults feel valued, capable, and connected to their future potential.

Author and former Florida Governor and Senator Bob Graham will visit the Hingham Library next Tuesday to discuss his new book "Keys to the Kingdom." The author's visit will be part of the   "Evening with the Author," which are free programs presented in partnership with Buttonwood Books, designed to connect readers with the writers. "Keys to the Kingdom" is Graham's first novel which he recently released this past summer. The fictional story is about a Senator who is murdered after he writes an explosive op-ed piece about the 9/11 investigation for the New York Times. When his daughter and his former aide join forces to investigate, they not only uncover evidence of a conspiracy linking Saudi Arabia to 9/11. Graham was the 38th Governor of Florida from 1979 to 1987 and went on to serve the sunshine state as a US Senator from 1987 to 2005.  In 2004, the Democratic Politician was considered a possible running mate for John Kerry in the Presidential Race. After retirement in 2005, he spent a year as senior fellow at the Kennedy School of Government. More recently he has served as co-chair on the Bipartisan National Commission on the BP oil spill, and was appointed to chair the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. Hingham residents are invited to meet Graham and discuss his book on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. A book signing follows this free program presented by the Hingham Public Library and Buttonwood Books &amp; Toys of Cohasset.
