Get Out This Weekend: May 18-20

A walk for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a teen dance contest, and the Taste of Hingham all in town this weekend.

Notre Dame Graduation

Get out and watch the class of 2012 graduate Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. at the school’s campus on Main Street. Grace Cotter Regan ’78 will give this year’s commencement speech.

Taste of Hingham

This Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. is the Taste of Hingham.  The event will be right in downtown Hingham and dozens of vendors and Hingham restaurants will be serving delicious food and snacks. Tickets are now available for purchase at Noble's Camera Shop (29 Main St) or Puopolo Candies (222 North St). Advance tickets are $25 per family or $12 for an individual. At the door tickets are $30 per family or $15 for an individual. The event will benefit the Hingham Food Pantry and 19 other South Shore charities.

Get out Saturday and watch  live teen bands, dancers and singers perform for a chance to win $1,000.  The contest is at the Hidden Pond at on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.  For guests, there will be additional entertainers including stilt walkers and jugglers to bring Derby Street Shoppes alive with street performance, color and fashion.  Nine contestants have been selected to perform their video entry live at Derby Street at Hidden Pond for a talent showcase and color extravaganza. Each performance will be judged by set criteria, based on degree of talent and interpretation of the theme, ‘Dreaming in Color’. The best performers will be named winners of the event and receive a $1000 prize. Five runners-up will receive $250.

Touch a Boat

Get out for the first annual Touch a Boat at Hingham Harbor on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  At this family fun event, guests will have the chance to climb aboard the Harbormaster’s watercraft, explore the Environmental Police boat, watch an underwater robot demonstration, and ride along with the Hingham Harbormaster.

Farmers Market

Get out for the Farmer’s Market on Saturday at the Bathing Beach. Several farmers will have fresh eggs, spring greens, salad mix, baby arugula, spinach, radishes, beets, rhubarb and maybe some asparagus
.  The event, like every Saturday of the season, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Cookie Decorating

Get out Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for some free cookie decorating at at the Derby Street Shoppes.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy Walk

Get out for the 12th Annual New England Chapter Cure SMA Walk-n-Roll at on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The event has open registration and walkers may come anytime to help raise money for Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
