Girl Scouts Nominated for Council Awards

The Hingham Girl Scout House Board of Directors has been nominated for two awards of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts council.

The President’s Award is presented to a team that surpassed goals, made a measurable impact for Girl Scouts and included girls in the leadership experience. The Board was nominated as a result of their 2014 efforts to save the Hingham Girl Scout house. According to Chairman Peg Doyle, “Saving the Girl Scout house does much for Girl Scouts. It provides access to safe and clean meeting space, contributes to member retention, and provides an opportunity for girls to be part of a larger community project.”A second nomination was made for the Helen Storrow Heritage Award for contributing to the growth and strength of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts through philanthropy and for efforts to preserve the rich history and legacy of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. The Hingham board is proud to have the first Girl Scout house built in New England and the preservation project contributes to the past, present and future of Girl Scouts. With the support of the community and many past Girl Scouts, and after providing over 700 volunteer hours in 2014, the boardsecured $130,000 toward the preservation and operation of the Hingham Girl Scout House. “Being nominated in itself is an honor. It speaks to the extraordinary commitment the board made to the community.” says Doyle.
