Harbor Development Committee Outlines New Ideas for Hingham Harbor

The committee would like to see Wooden walkways along the Bathing Beach and the construction of a bridge across the harbor at Mill Pond Outfall.

At Tuesday’s Board of Selectman meeting, the Harbor Development Committee outlined ideas that could improve the access to the Harbor from the Downtown area.

Harbor Development Committee Chair Alan Perrault and Hingham Harbormaster Ken Corson proposed a pedestrian bridge and the removal of the free right turn onto Route 3A by the Liberty Grill.

Diagrams of the proposed improvements were provided which showed wooden walkways along the Bathing Beach and the construction of a bridge across the harbor at Mill Pond Outfall.

The deteriorating condition of the Bath House was discussed with a suggestion that a snack shop could be operated there in the summer months with Corson detailing what needed to be done to the public access Boat Ramp so boats can continue to be launched with minimum disruption.

Perrault said the harbor is the gateway to Boston Harbor and the islands and he wants to encourage more residents to spend time at this natural location. While there have been no concrete proposals put forward by the Harbor Development Committee, the presentation was aimed at highlighting ideas of connection.
