Healey, Chambers to Square Off For Open Hingham Selectman Seat

The two well known Hingham residents look to replace current Chairwoman Laura Burns.

Only two Hingham residents have filed papers to run for the open selectman seat in April.

Planning Board member Paul Healey and former banker, and current realtor Carlton Alan Chambers will run for selectman, according to Hingham Town Clerk Eileen McCracken.

Earlier this year, Burns, who has served as a selectman since 2007, announced that she would be leaving the seat without any unfinished business.

Healey, raised in Hingham, is an attorney who has served on the Planning Board for 19 years.  He previously worked for 11 years as a policeman for the town.

Chambers is no stranger to a political race.  He last ran for Third Plymouth District State Rep. in 2010, but was defeated by current Rep. Garrett Bradley.

Hingham last saw a new selectman last April when Irma Lauter unseated John Riley.  Bernard Manning, who has run for selectman the last two years, has not entered this years’ race. 

Interested candidates still have until Monday, March 11 to file papers. Fifty certified signatures of voters registered in the Town of Hingham are required for a nomination paper to be valid.
