Hersey House Deal Comes to a Final Close

The deal was signed Wednesday morning.

Hingham Board of Selectmen have finally come to a close on the sale of the Hersey House Wednesday.

According to Selectman Bruce Rabuffo, town officials signed the closing documents at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.

 Although the historic Hingham house in March the town still needed to wrap up a final agreement.

The sale was set back after inspectors found a gas tank underneath the house.

Rabuffo said there was potential the deal would not have been completed in a timely fashion after the tank was found and  On Monday, the of the Hersey House to Thursday.

“We thought on Monday there would be a delay, but it turned out everything was accomplished,” Rabuffo said.

At a selectman meeting on May, Rabuffo said the final net gain from the will be $440,000 which will be returned to the town. 

"Twelve years of controversy is hopefully behind us," Rabuffo said earlier this month.

McDowell purchased the house for $1.25 million and plans to renovate the Hersey House into one or two parcels and  restore a barn on the property.
