HHS Band and Orchestra Perform at Spring Concert

Students perform their last show of the school year, and musical directors give out awards.

It was a night of triumphs for the Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band Tuesday, as students gave flawless performances, received awards, and for the graduating seniors, played their last notes in public as high school students.

Orchestra director Phaedre Sassano, who led her students through "March of the Meistersingers," "Marche Slave" and "Bacchanale," said their level of dedication shows through in their skill. "They have all spent countless hours rehearsing and practicing," she said.

Sassano said this group of graduating seniors has particular importance to her, as many of them began their musical careers in the Hingham school system 10 years ago, the same time she did.

"I'm very sad to see them go, but I know they will go on to great things," she said.

Concert band director Brian Cincotta said his group of 85 band members, from freshman to senior, are incredibly hard-working.

"They rehearse six out of seven days, and practice beyond that. They have a lot of enthusiam for their music, and it shows," said Cincotta.

The Concert Band performed "Festival Prelude," "Sun Dance" and "October" on Tuesday evening.

The directors gave out awards recognizing acheivement and hard work, and recognized the 14 seniors from the Symphony Orchestra and 11 from the Concert Band that will be moving on from Hingham High School -- some to further their musical education.

"It has been my pleasure to work with these kids, and watch them grow, over the past year," said Cincotta.
