Hingham 2012 Election Guide: Moderator

See who is running for the open Town Moderator seat. The election is Saturday, April 28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Moderator (One Year)
Michael Puzo   83 Cross Street
Bernard Manning   59 Cushing Street

 

Bernard Manning of Cushing Street will run for three seats including Moderator. Manning holds a bachelor’s degree, a master's degree, and CAGS from Boston University. He holds law degrees from Suffolk University. Manning served as an Assistant Attorney General and served as the Deputy Chief of the Massachusetts Criminal Bureau.

He  has also served as a special agent counter intelligence assigned to the Philadelphia Field Office.  Manning has taught English and Geography at Quincy Point Junior High School and taught Constitutional Law and the Legislative Process at Northeastern University.

He submitted nine warrant articles for Town Meeting 2012 and is known around town for commonly speaking at Town Meeting.

“When people have something to say, they should be heard, they must be heard, that is the Democratic process” Manning said

 

Michael Puzo of Cross Street is running for Moderator because he respects the town and Town Meeting.

“I think the opportunity that we have to come together annually with voice and vote to act as our own legislator is a great privilege,” he said

For 34 years, Puzo has been a practicing lawyer and has had opportunities to give his services to the Town as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, Transportation Committee, Water Supply Committee, and Personnel Board.

Puzo holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College and in 1977 he graduated from Boston College Law School where he was a a member of the Board of Student Advisors.

“People have said to me that I can’t believe somebody is going to replace Tom O’Donnell and I say someone will succeed him; no one will replace him.”
