Hingham Artist Displays Watercolor Paintings This Weekend at the Library

Hingham artist Joseph La Rocca's exhibition "Waves & Rocks" consists of watercolors of large waves painted of La Rocca's recent trip to Playa Colorado, Nicaragua and rocks from the local Cohasset shore.

 Hingham artist Joseph La Rocca will display his watercolor paintings during the month of October at the 's  Clemens Gallery.

His exhibition “Waves & Rocks” consists of watercolors of large waves painted of La Rocca's recent trip to Playa Colorado, Nicaragua and rocks from the local Cohasset shore. All of his work is completed “en plein air” on location.  All of his paintings may be viewed in the Library’s gallery during starting Saturday, October 1 during library hours..

La Rocca's work may also be found in the collections of private individuals and corporate clients. The Hingham resident, who grew up in New York, speaks five languages and has traveled extensively inside the United States in his small travel trailer and abroad. Many of his watercolors have been produced on these trips.

According to the Hingham Public Library, La Rocca began painting while as a sixth grader at St.Gabriel’s School in the Bronx, New York. As a middle school student, La Rocca won first place for a charcoal drawing of the head of Christ in a Catholic Youth Organization citywide competition and for another series of drawings completed at the Art Students League in New York. La Rocca also won first place for a watercolor submitted to a student competition hosted by the prestigious Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, where he attended as an architectural student.

La Rocca went on to teach at the University of Miami, School of Architecture for seventeen years. After that, he taught at numerous institutions as an adjunct faculty member, most recently in 2011 at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.
