Hingham Arts Celebration Comes in All Shapes, Sizes, & Ages
Hingham Arts Walk comes to Hingham on Sunday.

This piece was written by Michael Stack, Executive Director of Hingham Downtown Association
The definition of art is the expression or application of human creative skill or imagination. It can come in many forms, from your 5 year old daughters drawing on the fridge, to the world’s most famous painting, The Mona Lisa. It has the ability to affect your senses, emotions, and intellect in a way that is completely unique to each individual.
The Annual Hingham Arts Walk is a celebration of the arts in all its forms. It offers the opportunity to meet local artists, walk open studios, view painting & craft demonstrations, as well as enjoy poetry, live music, and dance.
This year there is a special focus on young artists. The Old Ship Parish house will be hosting Hingham High School artists on their lawn. The youth display will feature ten students, as well as three musicians and was organized by HHS student Emma Wiley. Emma has been very proactive in her desire to promote youth artists. She hosted a very successful youth art show at Old Ship in the Spring, and has been extremely organized in getting this show together.
Further down the road at the Hingham Community Center you will see another form of expression, dance. The Community Center offers classes for everything from ballet, to tap, modern, Hip Hop, and Isadora Duncan for dancers as young as two through high school. Their talents will be on display from 12:00- 2:00 as the Hingham High School dancers and Community Center Hip Hop classes rock it out!
Another attraction that is not to be missed is the Derby Academy 6th grades performance of musical Dear Edwina, Jr. They will be performing two selections from their show at the corner of South & Main to kick things off at 12:00 pm. It is a great opportunity to preview this young talent before the full show, which will occur at Derby Academy on November 10th at 7:00 pm.
The Hingham Arts Walk, which is now in its 6th year, is put on & funded by the Hingham Downtown Association with support of the Hingham Cultural Council. It is one of three annual events sponsored by the H.D.A. The others are Christmas in the Square (December 2nd & 3rd), and the springtime event Taste of Hingham.
