Hingham Baseball Wins in Extra Innings
Sean Greene hit a walk-off double to defeat Quincy in the eight inning yesterday.
The sky was cloudy and dark, yet junior first baseman Sean Greene saw the ball perfectly and smacked it into right field to give the Hingham Baseball team the win over Quincy High School in extra innings yesterday.
“I got up there extremely confident and just looking for that one pitch and I took it,” said Greene.
Greene ripped his third hit of the game with one out in the bottom of the eight inning to score Rob Madden from second base to lift the Harbormen to a 4-3 walkoff win over the team’s Patriot League rival Quincy. Greene finished the game 3-4 at the plate with one RBI.

“It showed a lot of character on the part of the kids that they battled all game,” said Hingham head coach Bob Rodgers.
The Harbormen fell behind early in the game trailing 2-0 but that did not stop them from fighting for a comeback.

Hingham erased a 2-0 deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two out rally highlighted by RBI hits from Tom Trogele and Rob Madden.
“At moments we would get off the bench and cheer for our team, we really battled back there,” Greene said.
Quincy then tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh inning when Lukas McDonough drilled a 1-2 pitch back up the middle to score the tying run from third.
In extra innings, it did not take long for Hingham to walk away with the victory. After senior captain David Hogan pitched a one-two-three eight inning, the Harborman offense struck. After Hingham’s Tim Winter struck out to lead off the inning, the designated hitter Madden was granted first base after catcher’s interference. Next up was Hogan who struck a hard ball to shortstop and beat the throw to first. The Harbormen had men on first an second until Greene smacked the ball into right field for the win.
“Sean’s that kind of kid who can hit that pitcher,” said coach Rodgers. “He thrives on those kinds of moments where guys are trying to blow the ball by him. He was ready for that pitch."
In the win Hingham sophomore pitcher Evan Flanagan threw six strong innings giving up just one earned run on five hits but had a no decision.
“Quincy was definitely a tough team so I think we’re definitely going to have a good rest of the season,” Green said. I just hope we get into the playoffs.”
Hogan earned the win with two strong innings of one-hit relief. Hingham improves to 7-1 in the Patriot League and 9-3 overall. Quincy falls to 7-5.
