Hingham Chief Says Surveillance Cameras Caught Cadigan

Peraino said the department set up the cameras after they noticed one of the gas keys was missing and was still being used at the town's fuel depot.

Hingham Police Chief Michael Peraino said surveillance cameras caught 34-year-old veteran officer Thomas Cadigan filling his personal vehicle up with gas at the expense of the town.

Peraino said the department set up the cameras after they noticed one of the gas keys was missing and was still being used at the town’s fuel depot on Fort Hill Street.

Cadigan was charged with nine counts of larceny totaling $471.23, Chief Michael Peraino said in a statement on Monday evening.  The thefts occurred in December and January. In addition to resigning, Cadigan repaid the town the full amount.

Cadigan was arraigned in Wareham District Court earlier Monday on nine counts of larceny under $250, Peraino confirmed.

The Hingham Police Chief said his arraignment was moved to Wareham to avoid conflict of interest, as Hingham officers conduct business in the Hingham District Court.

Cadigan admitted to sufficient facts to be found guilty on the charges. The judge continued the case without a finding and placed Cadigan on probation for six months.
