Hingham Children Learn to Relax with Yoga

Yoga will be offered today at the library starting at 10:30 a.m.

Today at the  young children are invited to learn yoga from instructor Meg Durkin.

Durkin, who teaches yoga at the Hingham Community Center and other locations will teach children ages 5 to 7 about breathing, and practicing simple yoga poses.

Durkin will teach classes each Wednesday throughout the summer and she hopes to help set the young children on the road to healthy body awareness.

“Starting yoga at a young age can start them on a lifelong pattern of being aware of how their body moves in space, and aware of how their breathing can affect the body,” Durkin said last week. “It helps them learn to go inward, to quiet themselves. In today’s world, where everyone so busy, learning how to self-soothe is so important.”

The yoga classes will be in the Whiton Room from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Space in this program is limited and registration is required. Please call the library at 781-741-1405 to register.
