Hingham Chief Says Cigarette Caused Mulch Fire at Shipyard
Hingham firefighters were called to the Shipyard three times on Sunday afternoon for reports of mulch fires.

Hingham Fire Chief Mark Duff is warning smokers to watch where they dispose their butts after a cigarette caused a mulch fire on Sunday at the Shipyard.
Hingham firefighters were called to the Shipyard three times on Sunday afternoon for reports of mulch fires, Duff said. Duff said he believes the cause of the fire was a disposed cigarette making contact with newly spread mulch.
Duff said Sunday’s fires started around 3:40 p.m. He said the humidly mixed with the heavy wind speeds caused the mulch to burn.

No one was injured from the flames.
