Hingham Gym Teachers Encourage Runners to Beat the Bunny

Registration is still open for the first annual Beat the Bunny 5K road race  at

The 5K race is scheduled for  the day before Easter on Saturday, April 7 at 10 a.m.  Runners who do not wish to run the 5K will have the option to run a one mile fun run.

The family fun race will have someone running in a giant bunny suit, and if you "beat the bunny" in the race, you will be awarded chocolate at the end.

Beat the Bunny is being organized by a new racing company named, Rock The Race, which was started by two Hingham gym teachers, Luke Dodge and  Eugene Buczynski.

Each hold a sincere passion for running and hope to organize many fun road races in the years ahead.

"We both love the atmosphere and the joy of running road races and we thought it would be a blast to put one on," said Dodge.

Dodge and Buczynski take part in many Hingham races. This past Thanksgiving, Dodge was the winner of the and in 2010 he finished first in the . This past December, Buczynski finished fifth in Hingham's and in November, he finished fourth in the Plymouth River Elementary 5K Run.

Buczynski said over 75 people have already registered for the race.

Dodge expects about 100 runners to take part in Saturday's race and said it will be a fun family event.

"This will be a great opportunity for family's to come out," he said. "I think families will enjoy watching their kids run the 1 mile race, and then, perhaps running the 5K themselves. I also think people will get a kick out of the fun things we have planned."

Beat the Bunny participants can register at http://www.active.com/running/hingham-ma/beat-the-bunny-5k-2012.  Registration cost $25 for the 5K run and $10 for a one mile fun run.

Attendees will be given milk shakes from b.Good.

Runners can pick up a race packet and numbers at Marathon Sports in Norwell on April 5 from 4-8 p.m. and April 6 from 12-8 p.m.
