Hingham Historical Society Schedules Annual House Tour

The tour dates have been set for the weekend of September 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The will hold its Annual Historic House Tour in the fall this year, rather than in the spring as in recent years.

The tour dates have been set for the weekend of September 21 and 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“The Historical Society’s House Tour has occasionally been held in September,” says Historical Society Director, Suzanne Buchanan, “ There is something so special about fall in New England, and that charm will make a perfect backdrop for the homes, gardens, and historic buildings featured on this year’s tour.”

The Historic House Tour, now in its 88th year, is the Historical Society’s biggest fundraising event of the year, and is one of the longest running such tours in the country. Visitors come from across the South Shore, Boston and beyond for the unique opportunity to tour some of the most architecturally and historically interesting homes in New England.  The tour highlights not only the structural and decorative features of each home, but also a history of the families that have lived there for generations.

Hingham has one of the most well preserved townscapes in all of New England, with over 1,000 homes listed as historic. Visitors to the House Tour see more than just the isolated historic homes; they see them in a setting that is historically unique and picturesque.

Seven homes, as well as Wilder Hall, will open their doors to visitors this year, each with a particular charm and ties to Hingham’s roots as a hard-working New England town. In addition, Old Derby Academy and the Old Ordinary house museum will host special exhibits during the event.
