Hingham Historical Society to Celebrate America's Pastime
The Vintage Baseball game is Sunday afternoon.
The is taking residents back in time on Sunday afternoon with the annual Vintage Baseball game.
America’s pastime will be played just like it was at the beginning of the twentieth century, with old uniforms and old rules. The vintage baseball game will be between the Coopers and the Derbys in an annual event to benefit the Hingham Historical Society. The family-fun events, started in 2007 and was designed to show the people of Hingham how America’s most beloved sport was once played.
“It ‘s a way to raise visibility for our Historical Society and to help people get an awareness for our history, “ said Historical Society Director Suzanne Buchanan.

Buchanan said the event will include all classical baseball traditions including hot dogs, beer, and popcorn. The player’s kids will pass out souvenir programs which will include fun baseball facts. The 27 players, made up of Hingham, Norwell and Hull residents will mingle, which was a common activity in the 1800’s, Buchanan said.
Many town officials will also take part in the event. Historical Society President Michael Studley will be the umpire, Hingham selectman Bruce Rabuffo will be the public announcer, and Town Moderator Thomas O’Donnell will provide color commentating.

All of Hingham is welcome to attend. Suggested Donation are $5. The game will be played at on 56 Burditt Avenue at 3 p.m.
